Install the Y2 Rockbox software, not the Y1 build.
The Updater journey is familiar, but Y2 needs its own model selection and release. This page answers the common “Rockbox on Y2” questions before you start.
Rockbox Y2 install steps
- Set Device Model to Y2.
- Choose Rockbox in Software.
- Choose a release explicitly listed for Y2.
- Click Install / Restore and wait for package preparation.
- Power off and connect the Y2 only when Updater CE asks.
Do not force a Y1 package because the project name looks the same. If no Y2 release appears, stop and check the model and current release data.

Can I restore the original Y2 software later?
Yes. Choose Y2 and Original Software in Updater CE. See the Y2 stock-software page for the restore sequence.
Why might the package be called rom_y2.zip?
That is a manual-download clue used by some Y2 full-install releases. The safer choice is still selecting Y2 in Updater CE and using the release it presents.
