Factory reset: what it does and how to do it safely
A factory reset returns the software to its first-run state. It also erases the player's internal storage, so read this first.
There are two different things people call a reset:
Factory reset
Erases internal storage and returns settings, accounts and the home screen to their first-run state.
Before you reset
- Copy music, recordings, photos and documents to a computer.
- If the player has a microSD card, remove it or check that your files live on the card. Cards are usually left alone, but a backup is cheap.
- Note any Wi-Fi or Bluetooth device you will need to pair again.
- Charge the player to at least half.
Reset from Settings
- Open Settings.
- Choose Factory reset.
- Read the warning, confirm, and wait. The player restarts on its own.
If the player will not reach Settings, use the model guide: Y1, Y2, G1, G3, G5, R1, PR1, SR1, Q3 or Q5.
