Innioasis Y1: the friendly manual

Everything the printed booklet covers, written for a person rather than a troubleshooting script. Innioasis Y1 is the small metal player with the click wheel that started the community.

At a glance

Model

Innioasis Y1

Platform MT6572. Stock package rom.zip.

Controls

Click wheel

Power, volume and playback are covered below.

Software

Original Software

Restore or update it from the Y1 archive.

The official PDF has the full specification table and regulatory notices. This page covers the parts people actually use.

The controls

The wheel is the whole interface. Rotate it to move through a list, press the centre button to choose, and use the side buttons for power and volume. A short press on power turns the screen off; a long press opens the shutdown menu.

Charge with the supplied cable before the first long listen. The first start guide covers charging, power and language in order.

Putting files on the player

Connect the player to a computer with a USB data cable. It appears as a device, and you copy music, audiobooks and video into their folders.

  1. Unlock the player and plug it in.
  2. Open the player in File Explorer or OpenMTP on macOS.
  3. Copy files into Music, Audiobooks, Video or Pictures.
  4. Eject the player before unplugging it.

The full transfer guide covers Windows, macOS, phones and microSD cards.

Listening to music

Open the Music app. Songs are grouped by artist, album, folder and playlist; the tabs across the top are the ones you will use most. Rotate the wheel or swipe to move, and press or tap to choose.

The app also holds the settings that change how the player sounds:

FM radio

Plug in wired headphones first: the cable is the antenna. Open FM Radio, run the automatic scan, then save the stations you want. Move away from chargers and metal furniture if reception is poor. The full walkthrough is in the radio guide.

Recording

Press and hold the REC button for about three seconds to start recording. The default mode is General; open the recording app to change it before you start.

Choose a mode

General, Meeting, Interview, Lecture and Pocket each tune the microphone for a different room. Pick one before recording rather than trying to fix it afterwards.

Mark the important part

Press T-Mark during recording or playback. Each press adds a marker you can jump back to instead of replaying an hour of audio.

Lock the keys

Slide the power/lock key to lock the buttons so a bag strap cannot pause a lecture halfway through.

Recordings are saved as audio files in the player's recording folder. Connect the player to a computer to copy them somewhere safer; the file transfer guide covers Windows and macOS.

Playback and export

Use Play/Pause, Prev and Next to move through recordings. The playback app can resume, repeat, and delete a recording you no longer need. To hand a recording to someone else, copy the file off the player rather than recording it again through the speaker.

Settings worth knowing

Battery and storage

Charge before a software install, keep the screen timeout short, and use the sleep timer at night. A microSD card is the easiest way to carry more music; insert it with the player off and eject the player safely before removing it. More detail: battery and charging and storage and SD cards.

If you want a clean start

Back up anything you care about, then open Settings → Factory reset. The player erases its internal storage and restarts. The Innioasis Y1 factory reset guide has the full steps, including what to do when the player will not reach Settings.

The reset pin is not a factory reset. It only forces a shutdown when the player freezes.

Update or restore the software

Use Innioasis Updater CE and choose Y1, then Original Software. You can also download rom.zip from the Y1 archive and flash it with SP Flash Tool. The restore guide walks through both routes.

A software restore replaces the system. A factory reset only clears the data inside the system you already have.

If something feels wrong

It will not turn on

Charge it for an hour with a known-good cable, then hold power for ten seconds. If nothing happens, the recovery guide is the next step.

The computer cannot see it

Try a different cable before anything else. Many cables carry power only.

A song is missing

Check the file is in a folder the music app scans, and that its format is supported. Re-scan from the music app's menu.
